Sunday School / Catechism Classes

We believe firmly that a child's first education about God starts at home, just as the book of Deuteronomy tells us. But as a church we know it is our duty to enrich our children's lives with the knowledge of God that their parents have instilled within them. With that sense of duty in place, we at Twelfth Avenue offer a wide variety of education opportunities for children of all ages.  Starting with the very small and continuing all the way to high school.

What do we offer?

Children In Worship

Based on the teachings and design of Sonia Stewart and James Berryman, Children in Worship is a program that allows the children to feel and see God. We learn why and how to worship God by mimicking 'adult' worship in our own worship center. We listen to and see Bible stories brought to life with wooden figurines. We reflect and wonder about God with words and activities.

This program is for any child between the ages of 3 and 6 and meets during our worship time from 9:45 - 10:30. The children are dismissed during the service.

Sunday School

For grades 2nd - 4th grade, these classes are designed to take a deeper look at some of the Bible stories we know so well. Through activities and mini bible studies both students and teachers embark on a journey to learn more about this being we call our God and father.  This class meets after our morning service from 10:45 - 11:30 am.

Catechism

We offer three separate catechism classes broken down by grades. The 5th - 8th graders have been working through material that introduces them to our denomination's Heidelberg Catechism. Using the Discover series by Rachel Boehm Van Harmelen, they have been walking through what it means to have faith and be a member of the church.  The 9th - 10th graders have been working through the HC and Me curriculum. This two part series breaks down the Heidelberg Catechism in an easy to use manner demonstrating to the students the importance, meaning of, and relevence of this doctrine in today's world. The 11th - 12th graders are currently working through the Belgic Confession using the What We Believe curriculum by Lew Vander Meer, teaching the students further about the creeds and confessions we as the Christian Reformed Church use and believe in.  All three classes meet after our morning worship service from 10:45 - 11:30
